Let teammates join by email domain

Updated 16 Aug 2026 · iOS, Android, Web

Auto-join domains let colleagues find your organisation without an invite. You add your company's email domain (for example acme.com) to the organisation, and anyone who signs in to Canto with an address on that domain is offered membership.

How do I set up an auto-join domain?

  1. Open Settings → Organisations and pick your organisation.
  2. Under Auto-join domains, choose Add a domain.
  3. Enter your company's domain.

The setting is described in the app as "Anyone signing in with this email domain can join". You can add more than one domain, and remove a domain at any time — removing it only stops future joins; existing members stay.

What does a teammate see?

When someone signs in with a matching email address, Canto shows a Join your team? suggestion naming your organisation, with a note like "12 members — your email domain matches." They choose Join to become a member, or dismiss the suggestion.

Two things worth knowing:

  • Joining is a choice, not automatic. Nobody is added silently — they have to accept the suggestion.
  • The email address is verified. Canto checks the domain against the account's verified sign-in email on the server, so someone can't join by typing an address they don't control.

Which domains can I use?

Only domains your team actually owns. Public email providers — gmail.com, outlook.com, and similar personal-mail domains — are blocked, because anyone in the world could sign up with one. If your team uses personal addresses, invite each person by email instead.

What do new members get?

Once someone joins, they're an organisation member like any other: every Space attached to the organisation appears in their sidebar, current and future ones alike. See Give a whole organisation a Space for how that works, and Who can see and edit what? for what members can do inside those Spaces.

Troubleshooting

A teammate isn't seeing the join suggestion

Check three things:

  1. They're signing in with an address on the domain you added — not a personal address.
  2. The domain is still listed under Auto-join domains for the organisation.
  3. Their email is verified with their sign-in provider. Apple sign-in with a hidden relay address won't match your company domain; they should sign in with their work Google or Microsoft account, or be invited directly by their relay address.

If the suggestion was dismissed, it doesn't come back on its own — invite them by email from the organisation's member list instead.

Can people join a domain org I'm not the owner of?

Yes — the suggestion appears for anyone whose verified domain matches, regardless of who owns the organisation. If two organisations claim the same domain, the person sees a suggestion for each and picks.
