Restore a purchase on a new device
Updated 16 Aug 2026 · iOS, Android, Web
If you have an active Pro subscription but a device shows you on the free plan, use Restore purchases — it re-checks your subscription and reactivates Pro on the spot. You'll find it on the paywall and in plan settings.
When do I need this?
- You got a new phone or reinstalled the app.
- You upgraded on one platform and another still shows Free after a few minutes.
- A recording is still Locked even though you subscribed.
- The purchase went through but the app didn't register it (for example the app closed mid-purchase).
Normally none of this is needed — the subscription is attached to your Canto account and syncs on its own. Restore is the manual nudge for when it hasn't.
How do I restore?
On iOS and Android
- Make sure you're signed in to the same Canto account you subscribed with, and the same App Store or Google Play account the purchase was made on.
- Open settings → Plan (or open the paywall) and tap Restore purchases.
- You'll see "Purchases restored." on success, or "No purchases to restore." if the store found nothing for that account.
On the web
- Open Settings → Plan & billing.
- Use Restore purchases. On the web this re-checks your entitlements against Canto's billing records — useful after buying on mobile, or if a checkout completed but the plan didn't flip.
It says "No purchases to restore."
That means the store account or Canto account being checked has no active subscription. Check:
- Store account — on iOS, restore only finds purchases made with the currently signed-in Apple ID; on Android, the signed-in Google account. Switch to the account that made the purchase.
- Canto account — if you subscribed while signed in as one Canto account and are now in another, Pro belongs to the first. Sign in to the original account (which sign-in did I use?).
- Subscription status — confirm it's actually active in the App Store or Google Play subscription list; it may have expired or been cancelled. See Change or cancel your subscription.
The purchase is pending
On iOS with purchase approval (Ask to Buy), you'll see "Purchase pending — Pro activates automatically once it's approved." No restore needed — approval activates it.
FAQ
Do I pay again on a new device?
No. Restoring never charges you; it only re-links an existing subscription.
I restored but a recording is still locked
Reopen the recording after "Purchases restored." — unlocking is immediate, and blocked recordings start transcribing within a few minutes. Details: Why is my recording locked or not transcribed?
