Terms of Service
Effective 26 July 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Tessa Labs d.o.o., Kolodvorska 12b, 71000 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina ("we", "us"). They govern your use of Canto — the voice recording and AI transcription app for iOS, Android, and the web. By creating an account or using Canto you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
The service
Canto lets you record or import audio, transcribes it, and offers AI features such as summaries, chat, search, document templates, calendar integration, a meeting notetaker, and sharing with people you choose. We may add, change, or remove features as the product evolves.
Your account
You need an account to use Canto, and you're responsible for what happens under it. Keep your sign-in method secure, and tell us if you believe your account has been compromised. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use Canto.
Your content
Your recordings, transcripts, notes, and everything derived from them are yours. You grant us only the limited license needed to operate the service: storing your content, transcribing it, running the AI features you invoke, and showing it to people you deliberately share it with. We don't use your content to train AI models, and we claim no ownership over it.
You are responsible for the content you record and share. In particular, recording laws differ by place — in many jurisdictions you must have the consent of everyone being recorded. It's your responsibility to comply with the laws that apply to your recordings.
Recording meetings
Canto can send a notetaker bot into your Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Zoom meetings. The bot appears in the participant list under the name you give it and only records once the organizer admits it, but that is not a substitute for consent. Before you use the notetaker, tell participants that the meeting is being recorded and obtain whatever consent the law where you are requires — including from participants in other countries, whose rules may be stricter than yours. You must stop recording if a participant objects and the law requires their agreement.
You are also responsible for complying with the terms and workplace policies of the meeting platform you use. If more than one Canto user attends the same meeting, one bot joins and each of them receives their own copy of the recording and notes in their own account.
Acceptable use
Don't use Canto to:
- record people unlawfully or without required consent;
- store or share content that is illegal, infringing, or harassing;
- probe, disrupt, or overload the service, or access other users' data;
- scrape the service, or use it to build a competing product or to train a machine-learning model;
- resell or white-label the service without our agreement.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where reasonable.
AI features
Transcripts, summaries, chat answers, and other AI output are generated automatically and can be wrong — names get misheard, nuances get lost, critiques miss context. AI output is provided as a convenience, not as advice, and you shouldn't rely on it for decisions with legal, medical, or financial consequences without checking the underlying recording.
Connected services
If you connect third-party services such as Google Calendar or Microsoft 365, your use of those services stays governed by their own terms. You can disconnect them at any time in Settings. How we handle the data they provide is described in our Privacy Policy.
Plans and payment
Canto currently offers free usage with fair-use quotas, which we may adjust to keep the service running for everyone. If we introduce paid plans, pricing and billing terms will be shown before you pay, and these terms will be updated accordingly.
Feedback
If you send us ideas or suggestions for Canto, we may use them freely and without obligation to you. We will not identify you as the source without asking.
Termination
You can stop using Canto and delete your account at any time (Settings → Delete account), which permanently removes your data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate the service or your account for breach of these terms, or shut the service down entirely with reasonable advance notice, in which case you'll have the opportunity to export your content.
Disclaimers and liability
Canto is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, loss of data, or lost profits arising from your use of the service; our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (or €50 if you paid nothing). Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
If you use Canto for business rather than personal purposes, you will cover us against claims brought by third parties — including people you recorded — that arise from content you recorded, stored, or shared in breach of these terms or of the law.
App stores
If you install Canto from the App Store, these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to support or maintain Canto, is not responsible for any claim relating to it, and is a third-party beneficiary of these terms with the right to enforce them against you. Equivalent terms apply to Google Play and its operator. Your use of the app must also comply with the store's own rules of use.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a meaningful way, we'll update this page, change the effective date at the top, and — for significant changes — notify you in the app. Continuing to use Canto after a change means you accept the updated terms.
General
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about Canto. If a provision turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing a right straight away doesn't waive it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to a successor of our business, on notice to you.
Contact and governing law
Canto is operated by Tessa Labs d.o.o., Kolodvorska 12b, 71000 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. These terms are governed by the laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and disputes belong to the courts of Sarajevo — without affecting any mandatory consumer protections, or the right to sue where you live, under the law of the country you live in.
