# Share a Space by email invite

> Invite people to a Space by email, what pending invites mean, and exactly what members can and can't do with the recordings inside.

You share recordings in Canto by putting them in a Space (called a folder on iOS and Android) and inviting people to it by email. Everyone in the Space sees every recording in it — including recordings added later.

## How do I invite someone?

1. Open the Space you want to share (or create one first — see [Organize recordings with Spaces](https://usecanto.com/help/organize/spaces/)).
2. On the web, choose **Share folder**; on iOS, choose **Invite people** from the folder screen; on Android, choose **Invite by email**.
3. Under **Add people by email**, type one or more email addresses and confirm.

Invitees get access under the email address you typed, so use the address they sign in to Canto with.

## What if they don't have a Canto account yet?

Invite them anyway. As the share screen notes, "People without a Canto account get added the first time they sign in." Until then they show in the member list as "Pending — joins when they sign in".

One known gap: if someone signs in with Apple and hides their email behind Apple's private relay, their real address won't match your invite. Ask them which address their Canto account uses.

## What can members do?

Members get broad access to every recording in the Space:

- **Read and listen** — notes, transcript, and audio playback.
- **Edit content** — title, notes, tags, speaker names, the summary, and transcript corrections.
- **Use AI** — chat, search, and templates on shared recordings. This doesn't count against the member's own monthly AI allowance.
- **Add their own recordings** to the Space.
- **Invite others** to the Space.

## What can't members do?

Some things stay with the recording's owner:

- **Delete** a recording, or choose which Spaces it lives in.
- **Bookmarks** are personal to the owner.
- **Delete the Space itself** — only the Space's owner can do that.
- **Turn on a public link** for a recording — see [Share a recording with a public link](https://usecanto.com/help/sharing/share-a-recording-link/).

Roles in a Space are simple: one **Owner** (whoever created it) and **Member** for everyone else. There is no read-only role — if editing shared notes isn't acceptable, share a single recording with a link instead, since link viewers can never edit.

## How do people leave or get removed?

- A member can choose **Leave folder** at any time. The confirmation explains: "You'll lose access to its shared recordings. Recordings you contributed stay in the folder."
- The owner can **Remove** any member from the member list. Same rule applies — recordings that person added stay in the Space.

## Can I share with a whole team at once?

Yes — attach an organisation to the Space so every current and future member of your organisation gets access automatically. See [Give a whole organisation a Space](https://usecanto.com/help/sharing/org-spaces/).
