# Add bookmarks and notes while recording

> Mark important moments with bookmarks and type a title and notes during a recording — and where each of them shows up afterwards.

While a recording is running you can do three things besides listen: drop a **Bookmark** at the current moment, type a title, and write notes. All of them are saved with the recording — bookmarks become tick marks on the playback scrubber, and the title and notes are on the recording when it's ready.

## How do I bookmark a moment?

Tap the **Bookmark** button on the recorder whenever something worth returning to happens — a decision, a number, a name. Each tap marks the current timestamp. There's no limit worth thinking about; bookmark freely.

After the recording is processed, the bookmarks appear as ticks on the audio scrubber. Tap one to jump playback to that moment and read the transcript around it. Bookmarks are yours to navigate with — they don't change what the AI writes in the summary.

## How do I title a recording while it records?

Type into the **Recording title** field at the top of the recorder. If you leave it empty, Canto generates a title from the content once transcription finishes — so titling during the meeting is a convenience, not a requirement. A title you type is kept; the AI doesn't overwrite it.

## How do notes during recording work?

The **Notes** area on the recorder is a plain text field for whatever you'd scribble in a margin: agenda items, "follow up on this", things said before you hit record. When the recording is ready, what you wrote is in the recording's notes, alongside — not replaced by — the AI-written summary. You can keep editing notes at any point after the recording too.

Notes are typed by you; if you want a short burst of speech turned into text in a field, that's dictation — see [Use Canto for dictation and voice notes](https://usecanto.com/help/recording/dictation/).

## Where does everything end up?

| During recording | After processing |
| --- | --- |
| **Bookmark** taps | Ticks on the playback scrubber; tap to jump there |
| **Recording title** | The recording's title (AI titles it only if left blank) |
| **Notes** | The recording's notes, next to the AI summary |

## FAQ

### Can I add bookmarks after the recording is finished?

The bookmark button on the recorder only works live. Afterwards, tap any transcript line to jump to its audio — with a transcript, finding moments by content usually beats remembering to mark them. See [Tap a word to play the audio](https://usecanto.com/help/transcription/tap-to-play/)

### Can other people see my notes?

Only if you share the recording — shared recordings include notes. See [Share a recording with a link](https://usecanto.com/help/sharing/share-a-recording-link/)

### Do bookmarks work from the widgets?

Recording started from a widget or tile behaves the same once you open the app — open the recorder screen to bookmark and type notes.
