# I can't sign in

> Fixes for Canto sign-in problems: an email registered with a different provider, password errors, expired sign-in links, and blocked popups.

Most Canto sign-in failures come down to one of four things: the email is registered with a different provider, a wrong password, an expired sign-in link, or (on the web) a blocked popup. Each has a specific fix below.

## "That email is already registered with a different sign-in method."

You created your account with one provider — say Google — and are now trying another, like Apple or Microsoft, on the same email. Canto keeps one account per email, so the second provider can't create a parallel account.

The fix: sign in the way you did originally. On the web, the message spells this out — for example "This email is already registered with another provider. Sign in the way you did before and we'll link Microsoft to your account." After that one successful sign-in, Canto links the new provider to your account, and both methods work from then on.

Not sure which provider you used first? Try **Continue with Google** and **Sign in with Apple** in turn — the one that signs you in without an error is the original.

## Wrong email or password

"Incorrect email or password." means exactly that — check for typos and a stray autofill entry first. If you see "Too many attempts. Try again in a moment.", wait a minute before retrying; the account isn't locked, sign-in is temporarily rate-limited.

There is currently no self-serve password reset in the app. If you've lost the password for an email-and-password account, contact [support](https://usecanto.com/support/) from that email address. If your email is also registered with Google or Apple, signing in with that provider gets you into the same account immediately.

## "This sign-in link is invalid or has expired."

Email sign-in links (web) are single-use and time-limited. If the link errors:

1. Request or trigger a fresh link and use the newest email — older links stop working once a new one is issued.
2. Open the link in the browser you use for Canto, not inside your mail app's built-in browser.
3. If the page asks you to "Confirm your email address to finish signing in.", type the same address the link was sent to.

## "Your browser blocked the popup — allow popups for Canto and try again."

Apple, Google, and Microsoft sign-in on the web open a popup window. If your browser or an extension blocks it:

1. Allow popups for Canto's domain in your browser's site settings (usually via the icon in the address bar).
2. Pause aggressive content blockers for the site.
3. Try again — the popup must open in direct response to your click, so click the sign-in button afresh rather than reloading.

Private/incognito windows with strict tracking protection can also break the popup flow; a normal window is the quickest test.

## Still stuck?

- "No connection. Check your network and try again." — the device is offline or a firewall is blocking Firebase authentication; try another network.
- "Sign-in failed. Please try again." with no pattern — restart the app or hard-refresh the tab, then retry.
- Otherwise, reach out via the [support page](https://usecanto.com/support/) with the exact error text and the platform you're on.
