# Which sign-in methods does Canto support?

> Every way to sign in to Canto on iOS, Android, and the web — Apple, Google, Microsoft, and email — and how one account works across devices.

Canto supports Apple, Google, and Microsoft sign-in as well as email and password, with availability varying by platform — the table below has the full matrix. Signing in is required before you can record: your recordings live in your account's cloud storage, and the account is what syncs them across devices.

## Which method works where?

| Method | iOS | Android | Web |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Sign in with Apple** | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| **Continue with Google** | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| **Continue with Microsoft** | — | Yes | Yes |
| **Sign in with email** (password) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Email sign-in link | — | — | Yes |

A few notes:

- **Continue with Microsoft** is available on Android and the web. On the web it also grants calendar read consent, so connecting your Microsoft calendar later doesn't ask again.
- The email sign-in link is a one-time link delivered to your inbox; it signs you in on the web when opened. Links are single-use and expire — see [I can't sign in](https://usecanto.com/help/account/troubleshoot-sign-in/) if yours stopped working.

## Does it matter which method I pick?

Use the same email address everywhere. Your Canto account is one account across iOS, Android, and the web — recordings, notes, and your plan follow it regardless of which method you used to sign in on a given device.

If you sign in with a second provider that uses the same email (for example Google on your phone, then Microsoft on the web), Canto links the providers to the same account where it can. When it can't do that automatically you'll see "That email is already registered with a different sign-in method." — sign in the way you did originally, and Canto links the new provider so both work from then on. ## How do I sign out?

Open settings and choose **Sign out**. Before confirming, Canto warns: "Local copies of your recordings will be removed from this device. Everything stays safe in your account."

That warning is literal: signing out removes recordings stored on the device, because the cloud copy in your account is the source of truth. Everything reappears after you sign back in, once it has synced. If a recording is still uploading, finish the upload before signing out — see the note in the sign-out dialog on iOS ("Sign out with unsaved recordings?") and wait for pending uploads.

## Can I use Canto without an account?

No. Sign-in comes first because transcription, AI notes, and sync all run against your account. There is no local-only or guest mode.

## FAQ

### Can I change my sign-in method later?

You can sign in with any supported provider that uses the same email address; Canto treats it as the same account once the providers are linked. There is no settings screen for switching providers — the link happens during sign-in.

### Is there a way to delete the account?

Yes, from inside the app, and it is immediate and permanent. See [Delete your Canto account](https://usecanto.com/help/account/delete-account/).
